Ogden, UT Parking Rules: Loading Zones (2026)

Ogden City Code title 10, chapter 3 gives the city traffic engineer authority under section 10-3-2 to designate and mark passenger loading zones and separate truck loading zones on public streets after a traffic and engineering investigation shows the need to regulate, warn, or guide traffic. Once a zone is posted with official signs or markings, section 10-5-1(C) sets the citywide default rule for using it: a vehicle may only stop there temporarily, and only while actually engaged in loading or unloading property or passengers, not for any other kind of parking.

That same subsection bars stopping for loading or unloading within fifty feet of the nearest rail of a railroad crossing, and bars it entirely wherever official traffic control devices otherwise prohibit parking at that location. Related provisions reinforce the loading-zone system: section 10-5-8(B) lets a vehicle with a special permit back into the curb to load or unload merchandise where signs allow it, and section 10-5-15 requires that a stopped vehicle still leave at least ten feet of roadway width for other traffic to pass, even while loading or unloading, unless obeying a traffic signal or officer.

The Ogden Police Department enforces the loading-zone rules alongside the rest of title 10's parking regulations, and the traffic engineer's decisions on where to establish angle parking or time-restricted zones under sections 10-5-9 and 10-5-4 require the mayor's administrative approval before signs go up.
