Laguna Niguel, CA Trash & Recycling: Bulk Item Disposal (2026)

Regular curbside service in Laguna Niguel does not cover large or heavy debris. Municipal Code Section 6-3-85(c) excuses the city's permitted solid waste collector from picking up dirt, rocks, building material, furniture, appliances, water heaters, automobile parts, or any other bulky item weighing more than 50 pounds or measuring longer than four feet as part of the standard weekly residential pickup described in Section 6-3-85(b). Instead, the code directs the resident and the collector to make special arrangements for removal, with the charge for that extra service agreed on between them rather than set by the city.

Residents who instead try to dispose of bulky items themselves at an Orange County disposal station run into a separate set of rules: Section 6-3-107 bars dumping auto bodies, tree stumps or similar bulky waste at any county disposal station except the locations the director of the county General Services Agency designates for that kind of waste, and Section 6-3-106 adds a parallel ban on dumping hazardous or offensive waste, dead animals or objects longer than six feet there without special permission from the same county director.

Because none of these bulky-waste sections state an individual fine, a violation is punished under the code's general penalty clause, Adopting Ordinance No. 93-68 Section 5, as a misdemeanor of up to $1,000.00 and six months in county jail, or as an infraction of $100.00 to $500.00 depending on how many prior violations occurred within the year.
