Laguna Niguel, CA Parking Rules: Commercial & Oversized Vehicles (2026)

Section 7-4-606, in Article 6 of Title 7 (Highways, Rights-of-Way and Vehicles), defines a residence district by reference to Vehicle Code Section 515 and then bars parking or leaving standing, on any public street or highway in a residence district, any commercial vehicle, bus, motor truck, semitrailer or tractor trailer wider than 80 inches (measured at the widest point of the body, not counting mirrors), heavier than 10,000 pounds, or longer than 25 feet. The same subsection bars any item of farm machinery or special-purpose machine from residential streets outright.

Three narrow exceptions let a prohibited vehicle park temporarily in a residence district: while actively loading or unloading persons or property, while performing or aiding a service to a property on the same block, or while making emergency repairs to the vehicle itself. Beyond the 80-inch, 10,000-pound and 25-foot thresholds, the rule does not distinguish by vehicle type, so a delivery truck, tow truck or contractor's flatbed that exceeds any one of the three thresholds is covered even if the others are not. The prohibition sits alongside the citywide 72-hour maximum parking rule in Section 7-4-603(b) and the city's authority under Section 7-4-604 to order a vehicle towed once it has sat 72 or more consecutive hours.

Enforcement runs through the Orange County Sheriff's Department, which polices Laguna Niguel under contract, and code enforcement staff within Community Development can also act on complaints about vehicles parked in violation of the width, weight or length limits.
