Bulk trash that is too large for the cart is collected monthly under City Code Section 11-15. Each address falls in a zone collected on a set week (the City posts Zone A through D schedules - 1st through 4th Monday of the month). Materials must be placed in the street in front of the property by 5:00 a.m. on the first day of the designated collection period and may be set out no more than 24 hours before that day; they may never block the sidewalk or traffic, and items within ten feet of a vehicle, mailbox or other obstruction won't be collected. The total volume per collection is capped at three (3) cubic yards (excluding accepted large appliances). Yard-waste brush, limbs and trunks (other than palm fronds) must be free of metal, stacked roughly parallel to the street, and each piece no more than four (4) feet long, six (6) inches in diameter, and fifty (50) pounds. Loose grass and leaves must be bagged. Acceptable items include furniture, mattresses, and non-refrigerant appliances (ovens, washers, dryers, water heaters - with doors removed or secured). Refrigerators, air conditioners and other refrigerant-containing units, tires, batteries, liquid paint, construction debris, and hazardous waste are NOT accepted.
Materials set out late, in excess of limits, or improperly prepared may not be collected, and the City may charge a fee for excess or improperly prepared bulk material under Section 11-12. General Solid Waste Code penalties ($250 civil per violation) apply under Section 11-22.
