Local Rules Near Downtown Redding

Redding Municipal Code § 18.40.180 (Walls and Fences) caps residential fences and walls at 3 feet within front-yard and street-side setbacks and 6 feet elsewhere, with up to 7 feet permitted along interior side or rear yards not fronting a public right-of-way. Building permits are required for any fence over 7 feet or within 10 feet of a public right-of-way. Barbed wire, razor wire, and electric fencing are prohibited in residential districts.

Redding's Zoning Ordinance Chapter 18.43 (Standards for Specific Land Uses), Section 18.43.020, regulates residential accessory structures including storage sheds, garages, and workshops. One-story detached accessory structures up to 120 sq ft are exempt from a building permit. Lots are limited to two detached accessory structures with a cumulative cap of 1,500 sq ft unless a Site Development Permit is approved.
