Indianapolis Revised Code section 391-302(c)(9) prohibits the erection, demolition, alteration, or repair of any building, or excavation for it, between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., unless the bureau of license and permit services grants a permit. Pile drivers and heavy hoisting equipment face the same 7 PM-7 AM ban under section 391-302(c)(13).

Lowell Code Section 204-4C(8) limits erection, demolition, alteration, repair and excavation of buildings to 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on weekdays. Work outside those hours requires a Building Inspector permit issued only for urgent public-health/safety necessity (or a finding that no party would be inconvenienced). Power tools are separately barred 10 PM-7 AM (Section 204-4C(5)).

Construction noise on Oahu is governed by state rule HAR 11-46, not a standalone Honolulu ordinance. Even a community noise permit cannot authorize above-limit construction noise before 7:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, before 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays, or at any hour on Sundays and holidays.

Under Admin. Jackson does not set a citywide curfew on private construction noise: § 54-90(13) exempts construction under a valid building permit from the Table A decibel limits at any hour, so long as manufacturer-installed mufflers and noise-reducing equipment stay in use. Government street and bridge work is separately allowed to run 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. under § 54-90(10) when daytime work is impractical.

Unincorporated Sutter County does not regulate construction noise hours by ordinance. A noise study prepared for the CPUC states the county has not adopted a noise ordinance and that construction-activity noise is not addressed at the county level.

Unincorporated Nevada County does not have a county-wide ordinance setting fixed construction hours. Construction activity is expressly exempt from the County's exterior noise standards; limits on construction timing are instead imposed project-by-project through use permits and CEQA mitigation.

Section 6.28.040(12) exempts sounds created by construction or refuse removal equipment from Chapter 6.28 altogether, with no time of day attached. Can I work on my own house on a Sunday in Oceanside?

Yes, but only if you are the owner-occupant or resident/tenant personally doing the work between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and it benefits your own residential property. Hired contractors cannot use this exception.

What happens if a contractor works past 7 p.m.?

It is a violation of § 13-103(10), punishable under the citywide general penalty in § 1-15: a fine up to $500, up to 60 days in jail, or both. Each day the violation continues counts as a separate offense, and code enforcement or police can cite after-hours excavation, demolition or building work without a valid permit.

Can the city ever approve after-hours construction?

Yes. The building official may issue a permit for work outside normal hours when urgent necessity affecting public health and safety is shown, or when allowing evening or early-morning work would prevent loss or inconvenience without impairing public health and safety. Those permits run three days or less at a time but can be renewed while the emergency continues.

What hours can construction crews work in Madera?

Section 3-11.02(B) bars noisy construction, drilling, remodeling, paving, grading or demolition work between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. if the noise violates the general nuisance standard in § 3-11.01. There's no ordinance-set start time before 8 p.m.; the rule only fixes the nighttime cutoff, so daytime work is otherwise unrestricted by this section.

Can a contractor ever legally work past 8 p.m.?

Yes, narrowly. The Community Development Director or a designee may grant a good-cause exemption for a limited time when an unforeseen or unavoidable condition arises mid-project and stopping would jeopardize inspection or create undue financial hardship, letting the contractor keep working and operating machinery until that specific phase is finished.
